WELCOME TO
BRAMPTON PARK HOUSE
Welcome to Brampton Park House where high end developer, Cambridge Square, is bringing this magnificent
and historic building back to life. The development consists of 12 luxury homes, each retaining unique and original features, many of which date back to the 12th century.
Set in four acres of beautifully landscaped gardens which include pathways, beehive topiaries and mature native trees, over the course of its rich history, Brampton Park House has played host to noblemen, scholars, poets and, more recently, the RAF.
HISTORY
Brampton Park House dates back to the 12th century when it was held in direct fealty to the King by William the Sokeman. During this time, a royal hunting lodge also existed on the estate.
During the 16th century, the Throckmorton family built ‘a fair brick house’ which was extensively remodelled between 1805 and 1825 by Lady Olivia Bernard Sparrow.
Lady Olivia commissioned Thomas Steadman Whitwell to rebuild the house in 1821-22, and John Buonarotti Papworth undertook further alterations in 1825, including the design of the coach house and entrance lodge.
During WW1 the camp housed German prisoners of war. Brampton Park House was also known as Sun Babies Nursery caring for around 100 babies evacuated from London during the war.
In September 1945, the First Air Division HQ, as Brampton was now known, moved to nearby Alconbury, and in 1955 RAF Brampton became a permanent establishment.
